Secrets to Boost Your Health & Immunity

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

The food quality in our world has completely been stripped down and become poisoned.

Stop counting calories, you need them! Calories are energy so you need high quality calories to have an abundance of energy. Additionally, you benefit from nutrients and essential vitamins in high quality food, which is another reason to consume enough calories. Calorie counting has been pushed as the most efficient way to lose weight and burn fat, but this is not true. Food quality, macro nutrient values and other more important things should be talked about first.

A perfect example of a high-quality food versus low quality food is… beef! Grass-fed beef that comes from an animal, which lives a great life in the pasture feeding on regenerative farm land, is one of the most beneficial things you can eat! On the other hand, a factory industrial raised cow lives in terrible circumstances and thus have high levels of cortisol***. Additionally, there are other negative ingredients you get from eating them like Xenoestrogens**, glyphosates*, and omega-6 fats…. But I will dive deeper into this later on.

So what is plaguing our world right now? What is the reason why so many people are trying to lose weight but can’t? For most, there is one simple answer, Insulin Resistance. Insulin Resistance means that your insulin levels continue to rise and your cells can’t use the energy. When you are insulin resistance your body has weak cells that can’t go through something called Autophagy (discuss later). High levels of sugar breakdown your tissues, causing rapid aging, which is a process called glycation end products. Advanced glycation end products (AGEs), also known as glycotoxins, are a diverse group of highly oxidant compounds with pathogenic significance in diabetes and in several other chronic diseases (1).

Autophagy is when the body’s cells clean out any unnecessary or damaged components. Basically, your body acts as a pharmacy and provides cures to all disease and damaged items within the body! This is the biggest argument for intermittent fasting. Basically, it upgrades your body internally because it removes the damaged cells, weak mitochondria, and more… it basically upgrades your stem cells, produces HGH and improves Testosterone. There was a study performed in 2019 that showed autophagy may slow down the growth of cancer cells, depending on what stage of cancer they are in (3).

There are other claims and studies that have shown other health benefits from autophagy but the majority of the tests have been performed on animals, as in most other research. However, the facts, remain, autophagy is a naturally occurring process in the body that has numerous positive benefits. It has been shown to boost the immune system by cleaning out damaged cells and other infections (5); it can boost liver health; it can improve cognitive function; and there are numerous other benefits, such as a strong potential at fighting cancer…

There are a few ways of causing this to occur:

1. Intermittent Fasting or Fasting in general

2. Resistance Training

3. Curcumin

Curcumin is a naturally occurring chemical found in the turmeric root, a popular spice around the world, that has shown to fight cognitive impairment through autophagy (2). The studies that were performed were on mice, so take those statements with a grain of salt! Regardless, Curcumin has numerous health benefits, which is why Turmeric has become so popular!

All of these great things can be stimulated, but food choice should be your top priority, so let’s start with what you should avoid:

1. Seed Oils… corn, canola, cotton, soybean, etc…

These oils become absorbed into your body, your cells more specifically, and weaken them. There is no other way to say it other than, these oils wreak havoc on you! They weaken your cells and make them insulin resistant, which is how type II diabetes happens. Additionally, losing weight and fat, no chance when you are type II…

2. Regular Industrial Meat…

Xenoestrogens, antibiotics, glyphosate and cortisol are all in industrial meat! Additionally, they eat bad oils so they are full of omega-6 fats, which lead to weak cells that do not bind with insulin. Glyphosates*, a common herbicide, is killing our soil and getting in to our food. The FDA still allows its use, which is absurd, particularly since it has been shown to disrupt your gut bacteria, cause cancer and disrupt nervous system activity. Trace amounts of pesticides, which glyphosates is one, may remain in or on some crops after they’re harvested. The FDA’s role is to ensure that pesticide chemical residues on or in domestic and imported foods do not exceed the limits established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (7). What are those limits and if we know they are harmful, then why not just say “no use” at all is allowed?

The EPA has established tolerances for glyphosate on a wide range of human and animal food crops, including corn, soybean, oil seeds, grains, and some fruits and vegetables, ranging from 0.1 to 400 parts per million (ppm) (7). Not only does glyphosates get in to your veggies, but it penetrates the soil and destroys the top layer of soil. The top soil of our farm land is being ruined by sprays like glyphosate in addition to industrial farming. When you do not allow animals to compost themselves, whether it be by natural death or from their waste, then we do not allow the soil to fertilize. Just think about it, how can we grow veggies without animal waste?

3. Sugar is bad… but oils are worse!

Vegan Diet is not a great diet for you, in the long run, because of a wide array of reasons. You do not get essential fats nor essential amino acids. The fats, in particular, change who you are and what you do. Also, plants protect themselves with defense systems because they do not want you to eat them (not a joke). Plants stick to your cartilage around your joints thus causing long term joint path. That cause cravings. This doesn’t mean you need to eliminate all plants, but over eating them is not a great thing. Additionally, if you are a vegan, do not eat anything cooked in anything other than coconut oil and/or avocado oil. I do not recommend cooking extra virgin olive oil but using this to cook is better than seed oils.

- It takes 45g of bad omega-3’s to convert to 1g of omega-3’s,

Pro Tips

With all this negative talk, how about we point out three simple KEYS TO EATING…

  1. Buy from a local farmer… produce

  2. Eat good fats… grass-fed animal fat, grass-fed butter, coconut oil, avocado, wild salmon... omega-3 fats

  3. Eat all grass-fed meat… avoid industrial meat that contains

Well, what are your thoughts, are you willing to discipline your choices so you can live a healthy and fulfilled life? The choices we make, when it comes to food, will dictate the quality of your life, health, wealth and joy!

BONUS WRITING... Build More Muscle

I can’t go through an article about improving health without talking about muscle building. Why? Evidence shows the importance of muscle growth and/or maintenance as you age to allow for a more optimized life… but there is something call MTOR that you need to learn about…

MToR is a signaling molecule that says grow, build muscle! Target of rapamycin (TOR) is a highly conserved serine/threonine kinase that controls cell growth and metabolism in response to nutrients, growth factors, cellular energy, and stress (6). Animal protein raises MTOR way more than plant based. High elevation, too high, can cause cancer, arthritis, etc.!! This is why you may not want to eat so frequently and never go through periods of not eating. Full plant based, on the other hand, keeps it low and never has it spike thus leading to a decrease in muscle mass, becoming frail and weak!

- We want to suppress MTOR at times, which is done by fasting, exercise and coffee

- Ideally, you will fast for a long period of time, drink coffee and then hit a workout…

- After doing all of the aforementioned eat a high protein meal to spike MTOR high!

DEFINITIONS

*Glyphosate… is a widely used herbicide that can kill certain weeds and grasses. Glyphosate works by blocking an enzyme essential for plant growth (7).

**Xenoestrogens are defined as chemicals that mimic some structural parts of the physiological estrogen compounds, therefore may act as estrogens or could interfere with the actions of endogenous estrogens (8).

***Cortisol… is a steroid hormone that your adrenal glands, the endocrine glands on top of your kidneys, produce and release. Cortisol affects several aspects of your body and mainly helps regulate your body's response to stress (9).
